This list tells you some statistics about students who entered their college in the Fall of 2018. It's a great way to start thinking about which colleges are going to be relatively easy or hard to get into.
Here are some useful terms and definitions:
- Admit Rate: the percentage of applicants were accepted by the school. Some of the most selective schools may admit less than 15% of its applicants.
- ACT and SAT: The two standardized tests used as factors in the college admissions process.
- Percentile scores: Percentiles tell you how well a score is relative to all other scores. For example, in the table below, a 31 on the ACT is higher than 25% of ACT scores from everyone admitted to Amherst College. Note that you don't need a perfect score on the SAT or ACT to get into even the most selective colleges.
- Rank: Most schools rank their students against each other using student averages. Some schools use a weighted system that takes the difficulty of classes into account. Your rank helps colleges get a better understanding of your academic performance relative to your peers.
